Ravelympics - I conquered the Clapotis

I conquered the Clapotis (commonly referred to at the Clap amongst the Zombie Prom Date Knitters) finally.  It was part of my wipdancing event for the Ravelympics and no, it wasn't knitted out of alpaca!  Good golly, do you know how many times I've been asked that?  I love my alpaca but I love lots of other fibers too...honestly, this knitting was so bad that I don't think I would disgrace the alpaca breed by knitting out of it.  Really, mistakes galore but...IT STILL LOOKS SASSY!

I was sweating it in the end.  I really didn't think I'd finish the darn thing.  Really...ask my housemate from the Certified Sorter training clinic.  We were studying for our exam and I was knitting and I was purling and I was dropping stitches and then...oh, pacapoo!  Yes, you heard me.  Actually I said some really bad words and I hope I don't get into too much trouble from the big guy above because I was saying them at St. Mary of the Wood, a mere few feet from a building full of Catholic Nuns.

Actually, I may have included the big guy's name in the cursing too but, alas, I threw the Clap into my bedroom and went back to studying.
Oh wait, I didn't tell you why I was cursing?  Oh...for once when I wanted to drop a stitch, it wouldn't.  Apparently...about 15 hours prior  (that's knitting time not real time which means 15 literal hours or more of knitting ago) I knitting two stitches together when I shouldn't have.  That caused my stitch NOT TO DROP!   Yes, I was devastated.  But hey, the Clapotis is really a chunky scarf and not a shawl and I WAS NOT going to tear it apart.

So...I plowed through the end and knitted all the way back to Michigan.  I want to thank Martha for driving to and from Terre Haute so I could knit an extra eight hours.  If she hadn't drove, I would never have finished.
I said after I screwed up that I only had two more hours of knitting...well, I was wrong.  I knitted a total of seven more hours to finish that darn Clap!

I arrived home to my kids already asleep.  I kissed Grumpy dropped my stuff down and started to knit.  Yes, Grumpy understood my need to finish the darn Clap and I think he was happy to see it gone too.  As soon as I finished casting off...I threw the blasted Clap behind my recliner.  This is the biggest project I've ever knitted and I was so sick of it by the end.

In the morning I woke up to hugs from my kids...I do love those bears and the reality that I was home and chores were waiting.

I found Kaboom in the same spot I left him, poop waiting to be scooped and kisses from Sunshine.  Ah yes...four days of not scooping poo, that sure was nice but I did miss my herd.  I love the Wonder Herd!

So...now that the Clap is done I will go back to knitting more hats out of Alpaca with a new knowledge I gained during my training.
Wait!  You want to hear more about my Certified Sorter Training?  Well...you'll have to keep reading.  That's another blog for another day.  I have knitters arm to rest plus a herd of alpaca and bears to take care of.

So, in true Olympic Spirit, I challenged myself and I succeeded and I will keep knitting and prepare for the next Ravelympics!

  2. Wow! That's quite an odyssey! As a non-knitter and unfamiliar with the Clapotis, I kept getting distracted by the nickname. *giggle* I think it turned out very pretty. It's a cool design.

  3. Way to go! It looks really pretty - I think the yarn you used for it is perfect.
I actually have yet to knit this - it might have enough interesting bits to keep me entertained for the whole thing.

  4. Thanks everyone...I have it blocking right now and it looks a bazillion times better. Kate, it has interesting bits with a whole lotta boring in between...but you are a better knitter than I so I bet you'll crank right through those parts. It is lovely and I will knit it again (figured out where I made my mistakes...oops!) but next time it will be out of my alpaca.
