Welcome to Fiber Arts Friday! Each week Fiber Artists from around the world meet here to share their adventures in Fiber Arts. So...what are you waiting for? Link your Fiber Arts Blog in and share in the fun. If you visit, please leave a comment and join the Fiber Arts Fun!Last Saturday was full of Fiber Arts Fun for me. It started with a morning of barn chores in the Alpaca Barn followed by an afternoon at Your Local Yarn Shop with my Rigid Heddle Study Group. I was trying to finish the fabric for Sister Bear's bag while the other ladies worked on techniques from the Jane Patrick Weaver's Idea Book. We had a great time and all of the Saturday shoppers had a chance to see weaving in action. It's amazing how many people had never seen anyone weave or how many who said that they bought a loom and had never put it together. They were amazed to see all of the Cricket Looms in one place and the variety of techniques and yarn being used. We may have found a couple of new members to join our study group too. I have to tell you, I LOVE Cascade 220. It is a great all purpose yarn that doesn't break the bank yet gives you quality to work with. I haven't used any of my Alpaca in weaving yet since I am still working on techniques and also items that can be worn hard. I thought I took a photo of all of Terri's great spa cloths and her luscious scarf but...I guess I didn't. Next time I promise.

Later that same day, our family went to a hockey game that Brother Bear won tickets for at a Cub Scout fundraiser. I, of course, took my knitting because sitting still is not how I roll. I didn't want to take my sweater because I'm mad at it right now. Why? Because it's not finished. Yeah, lame excuse, eh? I know...It won't knit itself (for some odd reason, I thought it would.) I cast on the Acacia using leftover handspun from a couple of projects. My intention is to use this as one of my Pay it Forward gifts. Did you know that this is a really nice and easy knit? Did you know that you can knit it and cast off before the third period of a hockey game? Yeah...I didn't either. I really like how it turned out. I've knitted this pattern before and I forgot how nice it looks with handspun yarn.
I did get the fabric finished for Sister Bear's bag and now it's ready to be sewn together which I will do this weekend. My goal for this next week is to warp the loom with cotton for my spa cloths and finish plying my Briar Rose Polyworth with my Wonder Why Alpaca Farm Suri. Now...share your adventures in Fiber Arts.

ReplyDeleteA loom is still on my wish list but for now it still is below a drum carder.
Happy Fiber Arts Friday! I hope you have a great weekend. Your Acacia looks great, I'll have to fav that for future projects. I have several handspun yarns now that I could use for a project like that. Thanks Andrea, you rock!
ReplyDeleteI really like the cowl you made-I'll have to give it a try knowing how quick it works up.
ReplyDeleteI really like that Acacia. It really does look wonderful in handspun!
ReplyDeleteStill so jealous of your loom. Oh how I want one!
I love knitting cowls (they're perfect for handspun alpaca), and this is a really cute one! Quick knits are definitely my thing....
ReplyDeleteWhat a great site! An avid knitter here with aspirations of spinning and having my own alpacas!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors of your neck warmer! I tend to prefer fiber around my neck so I am going to check out this pattern. Thanks Andrea! Enjoy FAF.
ReplyDeleteAndrea, You keep pushing me closer to wanting that loom! My birthday is in a few months, but I might have to gift myself sooner than that.
ReplyDeleteGetting ready to make a cowl with your yarn. Can't wait!
Andrea---I'm just sorry that I didn't think to bring my camera the night we met!! XXOO-
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cowl. I am loving hearing your loom adventures
ReplyDeleteThat is a quick knit, and you're right, it's perfect for handspun, I'll be adding this to my pattern library! It looks so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI used the Cascade 220 for my Santaclava and have to agree, it's a very nice yarn for the price.
ReplyDeleteHockey + knitting is a good combo! Just like racing + knitting!
ReplyDeleteI think I would like to knit at a hockey game. I'd have to bring something simple to account for the rapid, unplanned leaps up to holler. Happy fibering today ladies, I'm excited to join in at last!
ReplyDeleteI too love Cascade 220 ... there is a book called 60 Quick Knits that is just for Cascade yarn, and it has some really nice quick patterns.
ReplyDeleteI like the cowl, and look forward to seeing Sister Bear's bag!
I like the cowl. I finally got around to blogging after 2 years, and realized it's Friday so I thought of you.
ReplyDeleteYour new neck warmer is beautiful and looks really soft! Thank you for your sweet comment!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cowl. Am most envious of the ability to weave. Am contemplating getting a spinning wheel.
