Fiber Arts Friday - Pay it Forward 2011

Welcome to Fiber Arts Friday!  Each week Fiber Artists from around the world meet here to share their adventures in Fiber Arts.  So...what are you waiting for?  Link your Fiber Arts Blog in and share in the fun.  If you visit, please leave a comment and join the Fiber Arts Fun!

At the beginning of the year, Facebook was ablaze with Fiber Artists posting this:

Pay it forward 2011: I promise to send something handmade to the first 5 people who leave a comment here. They in turn must post this and send something they make to the first 5 people who comment on their status. The rules are that it must be handmade by you and it must be sent to your 5 people sometime in 2011.

At first I resisted...did I really need another project(s) on my list but then...I broke down.  Why?  Well, one of my favorite Fiber Artists, Suzanne Higgs of Hooked on Felt, posted.  Of course I wanted to be one of her chosen five so...the madness began.   I posted, which had a bunch of responses, then I found myself wanting to be on other people's list...and now here it is the middle of February and I'm still working on my gifts to be sent.  I received a message that I would be receiving my gift from Suzanne and from our very own Dutch Hollow Alpaca Bytes, Lindsay Klik LaBella.  Hooray!  Look at these lovely gifts I received.

First, from Suzanne, I received a gorgeous felted flower.  Look at the colors!  Look at the details!  Look at her talent!  Isn't she a rock star?  Of course she is.  She is the person who has really inspired me to find my inner felter and if you ever get a chance to take one of her classes, I highly recommend it. I hope to take more because she is not only an amazing artist but a wonderful instructor full of knowledge who can truly teach her art.

Thank you, Suzanne, for the beauty you create in all of your projects.  I am honored to receive your Pay it Forward gift. Next, I received this adorable cowl from Lindsay.  This is a crocheted gift from her handspun and Koolaid dyed Alpaca blended with wool.  I think I'm going to wear it as a headband especially since my ears get so cold when I'm outside.  I like small cowls like this because you have the option of how you want to wear it.  I love the color she dyed the fiber and the fact that it is part Alpaca.

I've enjoyed reading Lindsay's blog for quite some time now and one day we will meet in person but for now, I am glad that she is one of my dear Fiber Arts Friday friends.  Thank you for this wonderful gift.
Now, like I said, I am secretly working on the gifts that I shall give and hope to have them done by the end of February...or March so I can surprise the recipients on my list.  I love giving gifts and it has been a pleasure to work on something for someone else not because it's a holiday but because I want to give them something nice...just because.  I have to admit that receiving these gorgeous gifts this week was wonderful because I am still adjusting to the new work hours and feeling a bit of disconnect from my Fiber Arts world...these gifts let me know that my friends are out there busy like me making the world a better place one fiber at a time.

Finally, I wanted to share with you what I will be plying this weekend.  I took 10oz of Briar Rose Polyworth and plan to ply it with my Suri Alpaca this weekend.  The purples and greens are going to be breathtaking together.  The last time I created a union of Briar Rose and Wonder Why Alpaca Suri, it sold immediately to a customer who intended to make a shawl.  I wonder what this creation will create. How many yards will I end up with?  Will I keep this one for myself?  hmmmm...

Tonight I am going to meet another of my favorite Fiber Arts Blogging friends for the first time ever (in person) at dinner.  I am super excited because her blogs have inspired me.  I am tickled that she contacted me while she is visiting Michigan.  You know I'll share that adventure in a future blog.  For now, share your adventures in Fiber Arts!

  9. What a fab idea! I hope to do this one day if it ever comes around again. I give away most of my knitting as gifts, so it would be fun to get some handmade gifts sometimes too.

  23. Andrea Dear,
I am so glad that you like the flower. I was so hoping that you would. It was my fave of the five that I made. It reminded me of you. Thanks for the mention.
