Knitting, Spinning, Weaving, Dyeing, Crochet and more...how can we fit all of these Fiber Arts in to one week? Well, having a bunch of blogging Fiber Artist share their adventures in one place is the easiest way so pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy all of the amazing fiber arts adventures that have linked in this week. Welcome to Fiber Arts Friday!
This week I found myself spinning more than I have in awhile mainly because I've decided only to knit at work during lunch or when socializing (which means I haven't been knitting much lately). My focus has been on weaving which I've shared with you the last few weeks. Well...we hit a snag. Ok, I hit a snag (a super huge awful snag) where I screwed up my warp a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't noticeable for the first 12-14 inches of my project but...it is now and I hoped to weave 18-20 inches to make this towel.
I tried taking the warp apart to fix it while the project was still on the loom and that may have created an even larger mess because now the yarn is all wonky right where my project needs to be worked on. For some reason my tension was right across the whole width yet when I thought I fixed it...I hadn't so I ended up with lots of loosy goosy yarn where my actual weaving takes place on the other end of the loom. Alas, our weaving group is meeting this Sunday so hopefully the more experienced weavers can help me through this....that's how we learn isn't it?
In the meantime, I managed to spin these two yarns using my Spin into Spring with Suri Art Batts of Wonder. I'm debating if I should sell the yarn or knit something. hmmmm If I do use the single, I'm thinking about this Summer Caplet. I keep looking at shawls but I really dig the caplets and cowls right now. I don't know though...we have another KAL beginning soon at Your Local Yarn Shop and this time it's going to be socks. Yes, I am finally going to knit me some socks but I will share more about that soon. Now...share your adventures in Fiber Arts! I always love to read about what other fiber artists are doing.Fiber Arts Friday Blog Carnival!

Uh oh, a messed up warp can screw up a project right quick. I hope someone can help and salvage the loss.
ReplyDeleteYou're my only comment today! I'm off to learn how to shear!
Oooooshhh...what a disappointment!
ReplyDelete...but you're right--since you have experienced friends, the worse you mess up a project, the more you learn!! XXO-
Oh, NO! That does look like quite the mess. It's all part of the learning process though. Like tinking and frogging and stuff like that. Your handspun is beautiful! I love the color combination and the rustic look of the yarn. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteLovely spinning. And yay socks! I am cheering you already- Go Andrea go!
ReplyDeleteOh Andrea, so sorry to see your weaving woes. I know how that feels when I'm knitting along and then notice some weird problem, that I try to undo and then make it worse.
ReplyDeleteIt's great you have some friends who can help you figure it out all out.
I love your new yarn and the capelet looks like the best project for it too.
Do you often spin something and rather keep it than sell it?
I can't tell you how many times I've knit something for someone and really, really want to keep it for myself!
Hello Andrea! Oh that's a mess, I'm sorry for that! Your yarn looks so beautiful and I love your colours! Have a great weekend! Teje
ReplyDeleteOh nooo! Your lovely towel!
ReplyDeleteYour yarn is lovely ... it would make a nice summer capelet if that's what you choose :-)
Good luck with the weaving!
Ugh, that mistake sounds so frustrating. :( Hope fixing it doesn't end up taking that long! And your spinning looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful yarn there lady, here's hoping it's a simple fix for your weaving!
ReplyDeleteI really need to get my loom put together!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a bummer. I'm sure one of your weaving friends will be able to help.
ReplyDeleteYour yarn is beautiful and that caplet pattern is lovely.
I feel your warp pain! That looks such a mess - I do hope all your hard work can be saved. :)
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, I love, love, love that handspun! And I've had that capelet in my queue for a while - it's a sweet pattern. I'd say go for it. I'll be interested to see how it works up with variegated yarn.
And yes, I have no idea when summer will arrive. Sheesh a moley!
I always love your spun yarn. It's beautiful and I love the subtle colors.
ReplyDeleteSuccessful spinning is sure to precede wonderful weaving. You'll soon be back on track!
ReplyDeleteGood luck fixing the weaving snag-of-doom. It's good that you have so many people in your creative support circle. The handspun should cheer you up in the meantime, it's just lovely.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can get back on track with your weaving project. On the bright side, that is some gorgeous yarn that you created.
ReplyDeleteI think your handspun would make a gorgeous caplet... and maybe take your mind off of the scary weaving yarf?
ReplyDeleteOh no about your warp!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited you're finally going to try socks, though. :)
Ouch! Sorry for your snag! I hate when that happens. Nice skeins of yarn. Were those the ones you had on your Etsy shop?? I didn't post yesterday. I just did not have anything for FAF. I have been busy halter training and freaking out about it!!
