Check out the website created by the Craft Yarn Council for suggestions on what you can do with yarn. Knit or crochet something for charity? Gather with friends to enjoy your favorite fiber art. Me? Well, I will be reading all of my favorite Fiber Arts Friday submissions (Thank you, in advance, for linking in) then heading to my favorite yarn shop to knit tonight.
I have cast on Antarctica. I am using this as part of my Nerd Wars tournament submissions and...conquering my fear of cables. Yes, I know, cables aren't that bad but I've chosen to make them scary and now...I will take that fear away. Seriously, I keep finding sassy cable patterns so I need to get over the intimidation and just knit it.
Finally, I submitted my Scientific Challenge aka the Prehistoric Challenge for Nerd Wars. I spun a yarn for this challenge. The challenge was to make something that pre-dated our history. Since I am on the Vampire team, I chose Ann Rice's Queen of the Damned for my Team Bite Me Inspiration since that was the beginning of vampires. In my submission, I wrote a bit of vampire history and why I chose the colorway I did. I think the yarn turned out great and soon it will be tagged and ready for me to take to Fiber Expo in two weeks. Now...share your adventures in Fiber Arts then go out and enjoy I Love Yarn Day!

Your wool looks beautiful Andrea!! Happy 'I Love Yarn Day' to you!
ReplyDeleteWarmly
Linda
Happy Yarn Day! I didn't even know there was such a thing.
ReplyDeleteHappy I love yarn day *grins*
ReplyDeleteLove the yarn you spun, beautiful :)
Wow, you got my attention with the Anne Rice reference and your new yarn is fab. It is great that I Love Yarn Day is today, I'll have to celebrate by knitting on lunch and spinning when I get home tonight. Can't wait to see you in Ann Arbor!
ReplyDeleteI've read all the Anne Rice books, so yarn patterned after the books got my attention! Love the yarn! Happy I Love Yarn Day!
ReplyDeleteYou are SO creative and inventive!! It's always something new and fun with you, Andrea!
ReplyDeleteI think I need to spend some more time with you and see what your secret is!! :) XXO-
This must be my day, I am a sucker for yarn!
ReplyDeleteHappy happy yarn day!!! It's so pretty too!
ReplyDeleteUmm. Nice skein Andrea. Clever idea too. Are you ready for Fiber Expo? I am almost finished with marking my inventory. Good luck with your submission! Happy Yarn Day. And yes, you need to come and visit me. Bring your wheel. We will sit on the porch. ;)
ReplyDeletePretty yarn!! Good luck with the cables, I'm sure you'll do great!
ReplyDeleteOoh, thanks for the heads-up about I Love Yarn day! I'll have to buy some new yarn to celebrate. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd good luck with the cable-conquering! You've chosen a beautiful yarn to conquer with, and I hope the project will go wonderfully.
Good luck with the cables! They are on my "conquer" list, too!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I thought every day was I Love Yarn Day?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the cables. A little practice and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. Then you can join the Great Cable Debate: whether to use a cable needle or not :-)
Spectacular yarn! And good for you for conquering your fear of cables. I hate to tell you this, but they're a little bit addicting. Next thing we know, you'll be cranking out a Beatnik! :)
ReplyDeleteOh the hat is very cute.
ReplyDeleteIt's true, cables are really fun. After you finish that hat, you'll be making cable socks. ;-)
BTW, I had no idea that there was an official I Love Yarn Day, but it sounds like a good idea to me. :-D
Happy yarn day. Your spinning looks great.
ReplyDeleteAndrea, maybe it's just me... but the last column of links are pushing off into the right margin. Is that fixable?
ReplyDeleteThanks again for hosting Fiber Arts Friday!
Well, I actually knew it was "officially" I Love Yarn Day, but I just didn't mention it because, like Marushka, every day is I Love Yarn day for me! Those crafty Craft Yarn Council folk. :)
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, your latest handspun is, as usual, wonderful. And once you make that cute beanie, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about cables. They are easy - really. :) Knit cables are the bomb.
I agree with you, what's not to love about yarn?! Happy I love yarn day :)
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful yarn, love the color. Have a great day!

Food for Thought

My most favorite thing about yarn is probably how soft it is. This is likely why I absotively-posilutely love alpaca.
ReplyDeleteWool flower fairies, are floating around at the moment, being Spring time in New Zealand. cheers Marie
ReplyDeleteCables are awesome! Eventually you'll be so fearless you won't use an extra needle to do the cable stitches. And, learn from my mistake: If you're making something with cables, it's going to look too big at first. As you progress, though, the knitted piece becomes smaller. the twisting and cabling draws in the fabric, just like ribbing does.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe I didn't know it was I Love Yarn Day! (now it's marked on my calendar so I can never forget it again)
ReplyDeleteI think you're really going to like cables - enjoy!
I love yarn today and every day :-) You'll love knitting cables, they look complicated but once you get the gist of it I'm sure you'll make every project on Ravelry with cables.
ReplyDeleteThank you to everyone who stopped by to visit and to link in. I am just finishing reading all of your post and I absolutely LOVE all of the fiber arts creations.
