Nerd Wars has been keeping me busy with our October challenges. I still have a couple of challenges left. I am working on the Technical Challenge which is Colortastic. I am cheating a bit and using a pattern that I've already knit before instead of something new but I wanted one in a new color so it is a new project. Anyways, I am knitting the Mosaic Ornament written by KellyJ Knits. We are require to use more than one color so this is the perfect project plus I needed an ornament for another project I'm working on so win/win.
Next, I cast on my Antarctica and am on the row to begin my first cables ever. Dear Mama Melissa from Needle and Wheel Designs made me promise to finish pricing all of the yarns and batts for Fiber Expo this weekend before I continued with it so...my reward is that she is going to walk me through my first cable row. I am really enjoying this yarn, Waterlily, that I purchased and I am really loving the color. It's a nice Merino yarn and feels nice to knit with. I am hoping to use this for another challenge in Nerd Wars but not sure if it will be for the Giving Geeks or Nerd Culture Challenge. As usual, anything I create needs to be tied in to my team, Team Bite Me, which means vampires are involved. Oh yes, I already have my story figured out for the ornament once it's finished.
I have also finished a personal challenge to step out of my color comfort zone. I dyed a bunch of really bright colors and created some really fun batts to spin. I spun these last weekend at Mama Melissa's house during the Arts and Eats Tour. She opened her farm for the public and a few of us demonstrated spinning. It was a great afternoon and I learned spinning is even more fun when Ukalele are involved. I really felt like the bright colors hurt my eyes as I spun even with the added black but once I plyed the yarn, the colors calmed down a bit and I'm very pleased with the results.Today I will be setting up my booth in Ann Arbor for Fiber Expo. If you are in the area this weekend, stop by and say hello. Now...share your adventures in Fiber Arts.

Oh an ornament is a great idea! Cables are fun, I love them, and once you do your first one they aren't hard at all! Have fun. Your yarn is gorgeous, good for you for stepping out of your comfort zone, it is great to challenge yourself!
ReplyDeleteLove your bright yarn! Good luck at your fiber expo-wish I could be there.
ReplyDeleteI like win/win projects ;) Love the yarn you made, way to step out of your comfort zone!
ReplyDeleteAndrea--I 'cheated' a bit, linking my blog post from today...since it is technically NOT a fiber post at all. Perhaps no one will mind once they try my yummy banana bread?!?!
ReplyDeleteHope your 'surprise' has arrived!! XXO-
Heather - A surprise? Oh, I am intrigued.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colourways! x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful yarn! See you later today!
ReplyDeleteI love your yarn! It's so fun that you're venturing into other colors. I can't wait to see you tomorrow in Ann Arbor. Sounds like just about everybody I know is going to be down there. It's going to be tough deciding what I want to purchase. Good luck with the cables and don't be afraid. Cables are one of my favorite techniques, second only to the Summer Sox lace. You'll do great!
ReplyDeleteI love that yarn! It would be a fun bulky scarf...
ReplyDeleteGorgeous yarn!
ReplyDeleteHope your booth is a great success and you have FUN!
The yarn is gorgeous with all those colours playing together; you'll have to knit something very special with it!

I like that ornament. Good luck with your first cables. They're not as hard as they sound.
ReplyDeleteLove your spinning. Have fun at the fiber expo.
I love your extra colorful yarn! You should definitely spin more! But if it hurts your eyes, maybe you need to add dark sunglasses to your spinning tool kit, lol! Good Luck at the fiber expo!
ReplyDeleteAren't you glad you stepped out of your comfort zone? The results are so lovely! I'd knit that in a minute!
ReplyDeleteI have to step out of my comfort zone with my knitting. Doing lots of projects, but they're so simple to the point of almost being boring. I have to get them done and then move on to something challenging.
Thanks for encouraging me to get more adventurous!

ReplyDeleteLOVE the color of your new yarn! Yes, bright colors need to be managed, but they are so pretty in the right place. Have a good time at Fiber Expo!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to all. cheers Marie
ReplyDeleteSuper projects, I especially love the yarn, two constrasting colours plied together to give a candy stripe effect is my favourite type of handspun
ReplyDeleteI love to pair bright color combinations with a black strand. Yours looks great!
ReplyDelete(Is it just me or does the right column of links disappear behind the right column? last week I could click on a few letters of them even though I couldn't see them, but today all I see are the numbers.)
I hope you love cables even a quarter as much as I do ... you'll be hooked!
ReplyDeleteI love the yarn you made. I see a lovely wrap in it :-)
I guess it's just my browser -- when I view the blog from my iPad, everything's visible.
