Happy Fiber Arts Friday! Knitting, Spinning, Weaving, Felting, Crochet...what type of Fiber Arts gifts are you giving this Christmas? Have you finished? Have you already given your gifts? Whew! I must admit that mine are done! Yes, done. I have given pretty much all of them that I wanted to give and the last ones will be given this weekend.
First, I finished the Shelter Socks aka The Damn Socks! Dear Carolyn, a wonderful nurse that I work with, was the recipient of these socks. My second pair of socks ever and I gave them to a sassy lady who is a giver. She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met and I gave them to her at 12:55pm yesterday. How do I know the time? Because I finished weaving in the ends at 12:55pm and spent the next five minutes watching her put them on along with the rest of my co-workers before we had to go back to work. She spent most of the afternoon in her new socks without shoes enjoying the feel of hand knit socks that I made. Two weeks late for her birthday but two days early for Christmas, her dual gift was well received. She asked that I only post photos of her happy feet and not her smiling face so...I granted that wish although her smile was worth a million gifts to me.
Next, I made a wine bottle cozy for another amazing person that I work with. I had some sparkly handspun Alpaca yarn that I just didn't know what to do with. Every pattern I considered was tossed aside when I thought about this cozy. It was perfect. I coupled it with a MADE IN MICHIGAN Wine because I'm all about supporting local. The best part about making these gifts is that they were truly appreciated. I have made some gifts where I feel that the recipient just didn't appreciate the hard work that I put in to the project. I know, I know...it shouldn't bother me but it does! Seriously, a nice thank you then never wear the gift really hurts. I know as we start giving the gifts that we labored over, that fear stays with us, even in the back parts of our mind. I am glad to know that my work will be enjoyed by these two people.Wishing all of my Fiber Arts Friends the Merriest of Christmas and Holiday Cheer. Thank you for being here at Fiber Arts Friday and making this such a fun part of the week. Now...share your adventures in Fiber Arts!

ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Christmas x
Dear Andrea,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your lovely comment about my fox, Copper! You are so kind, really!!
Your socks are lovely and so is the bottle cozy.
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
Linda
Great socks! I've been lucky in that most of my friends ask me to make them things or say they are so excited when they know they are getting a handmade item...and yes they are used plenty...I have picture proof...one of my last items was taken on a trip to Ireland...
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your family a very wonderful Christmas, Andrea!
ReplyDeleteGuess what? You inspired me to want to learn how to weave, so I bought a small peg loom from a blogger I've admired. Can't wait to get started!
Happy Fiber Arts Friday!
Wow, you have completed some wonderful gifts, yea! They look great and it's nice they are appreciated! (Thank you for all the wonderfully kind wishes, right back at-cha wonder gal! Blessings to you and your loved ones.)
ReplyDeleteGreat present. That sparkly yarn is wonderful! Loving your socks too. Have a very Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI love when a gift is well received. I had a Mom hang the baby sweater in her living room she was so crazy about it!
ReplyDeleteI have had a few people not appreciate gifts the way I would have liked. It does hurt, but it just means that they won't get more. Especially when you get a reaction like Carolyn's. It's so much more fun to make for people who outwardly appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!

Your socks are so colorful - nice present!. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteYay for supporting local business! I love the idea of a cozy for your bottle of wine. Where did you get the pattern?

What great writing about the wonderful gifts and the gracious recipients. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas! Are you in the mood to knit another pair of socks for my sock challenge??? It takes me about a year between each sock project to want to tackle it again!
ReplyDeleteSocks can occasionally present real challenges - they turned out great!
ReplyDeleteThos bottle cozeis are fab.
ReplyDeleteI just posted a long reply to your post on my blog then realised I probably should have put it here as you're more likely to see it.
So here it is:
Oh thank you,
Yes it's a broken hook. My mum has looked thro my Grandma's hooks and has found a 4.5 mm (mine was 4mm) so i might try that. I have been managing with the 2 inches left of the hook tho. - just!
the pattern is from here: http://jellywares.blogspot.com/2010/11/jelly-xmas-star-tutorial.html and it's very easy to follow.
I find that if theres a stitch I dont know, I you tube it. The Knit Witch does really easy to follow videos.

One of the nicest things about knitting stuff for people is their happy smiles. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful gifts! So happy for you that they were truly appreciated. It makes all the time and effort worthwhile. Happy holidays to you and your loved ones!
ReplyDeleteYour socks look fab and it is wonderful that the recipient was so pleased with them, she sounds like a lovely person. Super cosy too, that is a great idea for some of the handspun that you are not quite sure what to do with. Tahnk you for your lovely comment on my blog, I love reading all your posts and the links onf FAF, so much amazingness! Hopefully now the festive adness is almost done I will be able to catch up on some blog reading.
ReplyDeleteI hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas x
I love the bottle cozy idea! My niece is turning 18 in a few days so I think i'll pull out some sparkly yarn and make her one, then put something sparkly to drink inside it (with her mothers permission off course!) Did you follow a pattern or did you just make it up as you went along?
