Welcome to Fiber Arts Friday! How have you been spending the first few weeks of 2012? Knitting, Weaving, Crochet, Felting, Dyeing, Sewing, Spinning...? There are so many wonderful ways to create with our craft of choice during the dreary days of January so share your adventures!
This week I spent my lunch hours knitting and my evenings knitting. I finished my Just for Him hat and even though my dear Grumpy didn't want to wear it, I found that it fit Brother Bear just as well. It's one of those patterns that fits a child or an adults head. I spent all of last weekend at my drum carder creating new Alpaca blend Batts of Wonder for the first ever Winter Wine and Wool Festival at the Sandhill Crane Vineyard. I love the wine the vineyard creates and the location is great too with a newly added dining room. I have participated in the last two festivals they had during July and with the new addition, they now can hold an indoor event. Seriously, what's a better way to spend a January afternoon than drinking wine and enjoy Fiber Arts?
I will be adding some of these new creations to my Etsy Shop this weekend too. I have also been dying some wool and silk fiber and will be starting to carry some non-Alpaca fiber in my shop. I've been working with my test fiber to use in my batts and am now ready to let the products fly solo so look forward to some new changes in my shop in the coming weeks.
I said I wasn't going to knit another Journey hat but...I am. it's a fun pattern and I had some leftover hand spun that I thought would be perfect in a smaller hat. Go figure, I chose Orange as the main color. It is the color of 2012. Apparently I can't keep all of the hats I knit so I am making some for heads that aren't quite as large as mine ;-) Now...share your adventures in Fiber Arts!Fiber Arts Friday !

ReplyDeleteLove the color of the batts, especially the yellow....My Hubs doesn't wear accessories, so it's hard to make him anything...
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday! Good luck to you tomorrow at Sandhill. I'd love to make it over there to see everyone. We'll see. Your hats are lovely but I especially love the orange one. I'd certainly love to feel your batts. Oh, wait, I have a couple I can go feel them...right now. A great way to start a Friday.

ReplyDelete...and you say that ORANGE is the color of 2012?!?!
Alert the media...oh happy day!! :) XXO-
I guess orange must be the colour for 2012 - that certainly explains why I keep wanting to knit and crochet things in orange! Just love the handspun hat!
ReplyDeleteTell Grumpy Little Bear looks better in the hat anyway :P~
ReplyDeleteI love that greenish/yellow/brown bat!
Man I'd like for our Wineries to do something like a Wine and Wool fest. I think I need to talk to our guild and find out if we can set one up.
Your batts look gorgeous :) I've just bought a learn to spin kit, so I may end up joining the flock (pun intended) of spinners!
ReplyDeleteLove the hats! I just made a Turn A Square hat that was fun to do. Thinking of making a girly hat for me, even though I have some, I want do something very colorful. Perfect to start on this gray day.
ReplyDeleteI adore that first striped hat, such nice colours and it looks wonderfully cozy. And oh my goodness, your batts! They look absolutely magical. The colours are delicious and the texture looks like a dream.
ReplyDeleteI really like Brother Bear's hat. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your new batts/fiber mixes and have a great time at the wool and fiber fest... it sounds like fun.

ReplyDeleteI made my boyfriend two beanies and he actually wears them. I was shocked. :-)
ReplyDeleteThose batts look absolutely luxurious and the festival sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOooh, look at those new colors! I especially love the green-to-blue batt at the end. Have a great time at wool and wine this weekend - I bet those batts (as well as some yarn!) go flying off the shelves. And brother bear looks super cute in his new hat. :)
ReplyDelete@Heather: In fact, the media was alerted - via the Pantone color card. Pantone picks a color each year, and apricot was picked for 2012. I mean, really ... get with the in color card! :)
Love the fiber - such beautiful colors!!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors. That journey hat really caught my eye.
