"All dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them" - Walt Disney
Well, my spin (get it, I love to spin) on it is that if you really want it, you will make it happen. I want my Fiber Arts business to succeed. I want my farm to be productive. I want to improve on my knitting, spinning, weaving, felting and crochet...and I can only do all of that if I make it happen. So..., I will share with you what I have created during my lunch hours at work. I rarely go out to eat at lunch because it costs too much plus it takes away from valuable knitting time. Right now my Nerd Wars projects are on the complicated side, so I always have a hat going. This is another Journey Hat using 100% of my handspun yarn. The pattern calls for a bulky weight or two stranded knitting on larger needles, I fudged the pattern a bit and used one skein of worsted weight yarn instead of two. It worked out perfectly! I ended up with a sassy hat to match my fingerless mitts I made a few months ago. I've used up the last of the yarn from the sassy striped roving I purchased from Kelly at Felting Sunshine plus the lovely Orange dyed Merino from Macintosh Yarns. This hat will totally be mine to keep.
I've been posting my Nerd Wars submissions throughout the week so make sure you check out those posts too. Now...share your adventures in Fiber Arts. What drives you? Where can you carve out a few extra "me" minutes to enjoy the craft you love?

I know what you mean about making time to craft, so many people tell me that they'd never have the time to sit and knit, but they'll happily sit and watch TV!
ReplyDeleteI'm a firm believer (and follower) of making things you want happen. It can be done! I LOVE your hat, the colours are just perfect. Good for you making time for crafting, it is so important and you are right, it is relaxing too!
ReplyDeleteLove your hat and the colors! I wish you success with everything you want! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteGotta love a beautiful orange hat! This one is amazing Andrea. The stripe is the perfect accent. Thanks for sharing your strategy for crafting time. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteLove the hat!!!
ReplyDeleteI just don't worry about cleaning my house - then I have plenty of time for fiber arts, HA!
Seriously, though, I am learning to try and balance out my work time and family time more carefully and still have "me time" for fiber arts every day. :)

Hi Andrea! You are full of energy doing all that! You have it so right - our crafts are our therapy and so important - even for a short time. I would love to learn to spin but there is not time for everything.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend! x Teje
Fun color combo on your hat. It is amazing how just 5 minutes here and 10 minutes there can move a project along.
ReplyDeleteI learned to spin when our son was very young, and also used it to unwind before bedtime. Now I'm really into felting and I can't really do it in front of the tv (and don't even really felt in the house now that I have a studio), so it's not as convenient to use as a wind-down, but it is still quite therapeutic. I like what you said about how you "make things happen." That is what passion is about, making things happen!
ReplyDeleteCute hat, those are great colors!
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same way you do, I need to do some sort of crafting each and everyday. I have carved out time at different spots in my day to do certain things and it's great - totally calms me down :o)
ReplyDeleteYour hat is very nice!
Like you, I grab every spare moment to do something fibery. My husband and I work together, so we ride together, well he drives and I knit! That affords me an hour and a half each day of knit time. My bag is ALWAYS with me, cuz you just never know when the opportunity will present itself. You are right on the money about spinning later in the evening, it is so relaxing and allows my mind to decompress. I do reserve the mornings (I get up an extra hour early) for either a run on the treadmill and/or a weights workout five days a week followed by breakfast and ravelry/blogger browsing.
ReplyDeleteThe hat is awesome... of course. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like to get a little fiber-y time every day too. It's been a challenge lately, but there always seems to be at least 5 or 10 minutes available. :-)
That hat is FABULOUS! great job!
ReplyDeleteLove the color of your hat. I so envy all you spinners! One of these days I will try it.
ReplyDeleteI love the hat and also that you used a Disney quote. So awesome!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful hat. Also love that you make time for your craft while being busy.
ReplyDeleteHow do you do it? Rock on, that hat is lovely!
ReplyDeleteHiya busy lady - no Fiber Arts Friday installment for me this week (deadlineville, deadlineville!), but I'll be back next week. Just wanted to pop in (love the color of that hat - the handspun is wonderful!), and also let you know that another alpaca breeder I follow in England just posted pics of a stillborn cria. Not only could she use some alpaca breeder solidarity, but it might be informational for all involved - beckbrowalpacas.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteAndrea--Great projects again this week...and I
ReplyDeletethink you know how I feel about your hat!! :)
XXO-
One of the things I miss most about working in an office is knitting though my lunch hour. I completely understand the need to do this - I always went back to work refreshed and ready to face the afternoon ahead.
ReplyDeleteGreat hat and I am totally with you on preferring fibre arts to exercise :)
