Welcome to Fiber Arts Friday! I've been home sick the last couple of days and although I wasn't at work, I also was feeling up to all things Fiber Arts so I am going to share the status of my Tuck Shawl. I am not quite to the halfway point but exactly where I hoped to be by this point in Nerd Wars. I am working on this for my dissertation so I have three months to complete it. We have officially begun Round 2 so my goal is to get through the mid section (with a possible repeat) by the end of the month.
I am really enjoying this shawl. Although I prefer working off of a chart (I don't care for the chart included with this pattern), the written instructions are easy enough to follow. I must say that my favorite part may be when I am knitting with my yarn. The main color is yarn from my farm that I had the mill make for me. It's a Suri Alpaca, Merino and Silk blend and I love how it feels and how it knits. This shawl has you knit from one end to the next instead of top to bottom which is a bit different. I can't wait to complete it an block it. (This photo makes it seem so small...and it's not)
I did start a new project yesterday. I have been wanting to knit the Stephen West Bandwidth hat since my friend Melissa made one last fall. I am using my handspun yarn for the brim of the hat. I am really pleased with how the yarn turned out. I spun this about a week or two ago. I debated about using this in the body of the hat but decided that the cables would get lost in my handspun colors so I am using it for the band. The yarn uses two different fiber blends. The first roving is from from cjkoho called Roberta which is Merino and Tencel. I spun one ply of just her blend then I took the remainder of her roving and lightly blended it with my Pedro Lime which is Suri Alpaca, Merino and Silk. The hat will become one of my Nerd Wars submissions for Round 2. Now...share your adventures in Fiber Arts!

I can't wait to see the shawl when it is done! I really like that hat pattern, your fiber is gorgeous!
ReplyDeletethe shawl is looking good-someday I want to try that method
ReplyDeleteYou shawl is looking gorgeous, and it must be fab to knit with your own yarn!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, I really like the handspun you're using for the Stephen West hat. Green is always my fav. That's an interesting concept on the shawl, going sideways. I get the feeling you're not a fan. I would think that knitting sideways from chart would be a bit of a challenge. I'm looking forward to hear what you think when you're done. So far it's looking very pretty, for something that isn't green, LOL Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteI really like the colours in the band of your hat. What beautiful yarn you make!
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are some beautiful projects, made even more beautiful by your lovely handspun! Gorgeous! (Hope you are feeling better.)
ReplyDeleteI can't think of anything more satisfying than knitting with your own yarn. I don't think I'll ever experience that, but glad to live vicariously through you.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon. I've had a little bug for the past couple of days, too.
That's so fun! I'm really trying to knit with more of my own yarn, too. Of course right now I'm knitting two projects with NOT my own yarn, HA! But I do try to keep up a good mix. Plus, these yarns were gifts so that makes them special, too. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!!
I'm looking forward to seeing that shawl all done up, it's lovely!
ReplyDeleteEven with not feeling well, you manage to show some wonderful projects. :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling better soon.
If this is your productivity level when you're sick, you must be a knitting machine when you're feeling well (which I hope is soon)! Beautiful projects, and I'm in absolute awe of your handspun. It's beautiful!

ReplyDeleteHey there, hope you're feeling better! Of course, even under the weather your handspun is awesome! Love, love, love that green combo. I'm also looking forward to seeing your completed shawl and hearing a reflection on the process. Shawls have definitely taught me a lot.
ReplyDeleteI love the shawl, its various textures are amazing, and the colours are working up just beautifully.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm so envious of your handspun! It's gorgeous, so colourful and squishy-wonderful looking. I can't imagine how exciting it must be to knit with your own yarn. I hope to learn to spin and find out!
I really love this Tuck shawl pattern.I love the textural effect aswell those colours. It has got me thinking about how to use my handspun.
ReplyDeleteI love the handspun that you are using, and your dissertation is going awesome!!
ReplyDeleteShawls can be so deceiving when they are on the needles, and then you block it, bang, it's so big and pretty. Love your description of all the fibers!
ReplyDeleteThe yarn is beautiful ... you always have the most amazing color combinations.
ReplyDeleteReally love the yarn... must be so very rewarding to work with something you spun. That hat is amazing too... adding it to my favorites, even if my skills aren't there yet.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness....must ask forgiveness. I read your post this morning but forgot to leave a comment. Love how your Bandwidth is looking. KellyJ called me to let me know Westknits book 3 arrived today. Sorry to hear you've not been feeling well.
